As someone who has fired a wide range of weapons, from .22 pistols to 40mm autocannons, I have to say that if you believe a .22 rifle to be silent, then I have some bad news about your hearing. It sounds like you're rather deaf.

Sure, they're quiet compared to a .30 cal of your chosen flavor, but they are far from silent when fired from a standard rifle.

What kind of scale are you talking about for the game? How many buildings? (How are you making these buildings?)
How many players? How many infected?

Why would the military be killing non-infected instead of isolating them in safe zones? Can you attack the military patrols? If you do, will they call in reinforcements?

(Also, if the military is killing non-infected in your storyline, then why has the city not simply had a MOAB, Wide-Area-Incendiary, or Nuclear Device dropped on it?)

.22 is the only round I've shot and while I'm sure it's not as loud as something like 9mm, I wouldn't describe it as "silent", but that is really besides the point.

I think anyone here and their dog could write about their idea for a perfect zombie survival game, so none of what you've written is a new concept to game devs and more importantly, with the release of similar games (mentioned above), the concept is no longer new to the public so without anything original who would want to buy it when they could have a professional survival game which has been backed by a multi-million company.

You claim to have another game under your belt, which you admit was over ambitious and thus was shelved, so haven't you learnt anything? You can't simply start at making complex games and that's the same with any profession, most writers write short stories to gain attention before they can write their epic novel, film makers have to make adverts and independent films before they can get the attention of a big studio. Please take mine and just about everyone else's advice in this thread and shelf this game.

Take a step back and invest your time into a project that is manageable. Here is a great guide that will tell you everything you seem to of missed: http://codedaemons.com/category/game-development/
If you don't find you have learnt anything from the guide, I suggest you find a new hobby.

The reason why the Military don't just nuke it is because of a number of reasons, A) the risk of the Virus spreading, it is very contagious and a single speck of contanimated ash can possibly infect someone, the reason why the military shoot on side is because the Survivors are carriers (Not affected by virus, but can still infect someone)

You could attack the Patrols, but you will mostly fail at doing so if you don't have decent tactics or Weapons, The game is set in a full sized City.

I have fired 5.56 weapons and all of them are very loud, compared to the .22 which is quite silent compared to it.

I have learned a lot, like the virtue of Plnning efficently, Concept art etc..

If those are the main things you learned, I suppose there's nothing I can say to help you.

Of course not, just said as a example.

My main point is that this project is too damn big for someone without an inspired and experienced team. Every game dev dreams of this game, so snap out of it and move on. This game will not get anywhere.

So, this virus is more likely to be carried out by the ash left over from nuclear bombs going off, flooding the region with massive thermal shockwaves more than capable than of killing any life form, than it is to be carried out by some bird, insect, or rodent?

I really think you need to sit back and take another look at your back story writing.

Also, did you wear hearing protection while firing weapons? It could explain why you think a .22 is silent. (Or did you by any chance have a silencer on the .22 and were firing sub sonic rounds?) You really seem to be missing the point of the definition of silent. Standard .22 rifles aren't the definition of silent.

To answer the question about me firing .22, I wore no protective clothing, while the 5.56 (L98 GP A2).

As I said, Still being ironed out.
Of course the blast will kill the virus in the affected area, but like Cockroaches, will survive the radiation as it is engineered to survive the Fallout of a Nuclear weapon for example.
