Hello Community,
I am not much of a game programmer, but I love interactive fiction and have a tremendous idea for a game. The common tools out there to write IF are too limited. I am going to write my own program and parser in VB.NET.
I would like to add static images to the game. I would like to add maps of towns and dungeons made from tiles to help tell the story. I may also use the static images in the battle sequences to help demonstrate the layout of the room and where each of the players and emenies are located.
I currently have Campaign Cartographer 3 which will help create the overviews of the lands. I am thinking about buying the add-ons for it: City Designer 3 and Dundeon Designer 3. These will help create images of my various towns and dungeons,
These apps come with a learning curve and a price. Are there any programs or tile sets I can use to achieve the same results? Preferrably something free and easy to use (the end game will be freeware).
Could anyone give me some suggestions? I tried the pinned topic in this forum for tile sets and stuff, but the first two I picked went to page can not be founds.
Thanks,
Michael

Dungeon Designer etc. are niche products . It will be really hard to find an equivalent free tool. I would take a look at a common tile editor and combine it with some of the freely available tiles over here.

Thanks Ashaman!! That first link in that post hit the nail on the head. Going to go build my town maps now with it. I need to keep searching through the list for dungeon type tiles. Thanks again!
I'd recommend checking out City of Secrets by Emily Short as I believe it used graphics quite a lot, and that was made in Inform 7.
Just in case you think it's more limited than it really is.

Thanks Exorph. I did not know that. I will defintely check it out as that was one of my main reasons with skipping over Inform 7. If this is possible, than I think it would be my best solution. Thanks again.
