hi
From experience I've noticed that this topic can often lead to unnecessary arguments over but simply:
Is intelligence the ability to make decisions within the constraints?
(this decisions would follow some form reasoning behind them)
*additionally this is without the ability to learn or take seemingly abstract information,
since they seem more like intelligence on a greater scale; the main reason for this is that
Im just casting then under the "other constraints" umbrella.
Can you guys recommend any good journals on the topic.
Additionally I've having serious issues of procrastination since realizing what a daunting task this actually is.
Anyway as a starting point I'm considering buying the recommended book and nothing else for the moment.
Intelligence in its simplest form
(please recommend good pirating sources if possible, college money issues at the moment)
Probably not the best thing to ask for on this forum.
As for your question, are you talking about intelligence or artificial intelligence ? (If this is about intelligence the lounge would be a better place to post than "for beginners")
If its about artificial intelligence then it helps if you're more specific as its an extremely wide field.
Also, are you using an automatic translation tool to translate your posts to english ? (I'm having a really hard time understanding exactly what you're asking)

I think being able to learn something you dont expect to learn is needed too... Else its just a bot looking up answers or a bot wich "learns" by filling the array with stuff its programmed to learn. It should be able to learn anything given enough time and infinite memory, else its not really intelligent.

The question is about intelligence, so I moved this to A.I.
The procrastination problem, sorry, I don't have any sympathy for you on that score. Maybe we ought to create forums for Procrastinators (we could do it later, so why bother doing it now) or forums for the Unmotivated (eh. why bother) -- both frequent topics we see all too often in For Beginners.

Problem: procrastination.
Solution: unplug internet, put your mobile to silent (if applicable), make a 'programming'/'art'/<'whatever'> playlist (if applicable), put said playlist on, insure you have plenty of drinks in case you get thirsty, start doing whatever you were supposed to be doing and make it a rule that you aren't allowed to do anything but that specific thing for the duration. If you break the rule, incur some form of punishment (and please, nothing stupid...) - my favourite one used to be 'no coca cola for a week' which worked wonders![rolleyes.gif](http://public.gamedev.net/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Unmotivated is just another way of saying "I'm a lazy asshole, give me motivation!". We can't do that. YOU have to do THAT part - the knowledge, information, articles, books, resources, teachers, mentors, colleges... all that we can do. But motivation is intrinsical - it's not something that can be taught or given; you've got to find your own motivation to work hard.

Intelligence is a loaded subject which (if you want to get serious about it) will entail research outside the realm of computer science, since conciousness and sentience still form a massive gray area. Look up some books on metacognition; I recommend Knowing Knowledge by George Siemens and How People Learn by the National Research Council. A dose of mind bending material from Douglas Hofstader's Godel, Escher and Bach wouldn't hurt either. Just don't make the mistake I did in reading all of those books consecutively.
In the context of games, A.I. is often more of conditional behavior than anything; NPCs are often as smart as they are ever going to be! Just decide on the rules you want your objects to follow and write code to reflect that. That is about as simple as it gets.
Finally, being motivated is a question of how much you really want to make a game. It is easy to think that it is cool to be a game developer, but it is honestly hard work.

Add The Society of Mind by Marvin Minsky for a book about how we think.
As for game AI, it really has very little to do with artificial intelligence in the classical sense... it's artificial contextual behavior.
