If it's a helpwanted post you would usually get a PM saying what needed to be changed. There are a limited number of people allowed to approve those, so it's not unusual for it to take somewhere between 24 and 48 hours for someone to look it over.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
Firstly, there are only a few parts of GDNet where this applies -- I'm sure someone will step in and let me know if I'm forgetting anywhere, but as far as I know only the Help Wanted forum and the Image Of The Day require posts to be approved -- maybe also the news feed on the front page?
I won't speak for IOTD, as I'm not responsible for that area of the site, but I do run Help Wanted -- as yes, you will be notified via private message if a submitted post has been rejected -- the most common reasons this might happen in Help Wanted are not using the required template for that forum, or posting a project that uses existing intellectual property, which we do not allow unless you can demonstrate that you have permission.
Excepting unusual situations (such as when I'm going to be away from the site for a while), I'm usually the only person working to approve Help Wanted posts -- the usual turn-around time from submission to approval (or rejection) is about 12-24 hours, but can sometimes stretch out to near 48 hours or may occasionally be near-instant. I do usually try to check in at least twice daily though.
I noticed yours was one of the topics awaiting approval in Help Wanted today -- it has been approved, although I added a "NSFW" to the title to warn some of our users about the content.
