Background aside, I have decided to post on this forum in the hopes of forming a team of dedicated volunteers who are interested in working on development of a card game I have been working on.

This will take tremendous amount of balancing work, good luck - you will need it.
I'm not really sure will that mix of MTG and YGH work, did you try to prototype your game in one of the card game sand-box programs (for example: http://www.magicworkstation.com/) and play it with friends to see how it plays out ?

I'll say a couple of things. First, for assembling a development team, you'll need to be in the Help Wanted section. A mod will probably direct you there eventually anyhow. You will need to use the HW format, which you can get more information on in that forum.

Second, without anything to bring to the table other than your idea, you're going to need some cash to infuse into this project. There aren't many programmers who can pull off a game like the one you describe that will want to do it for free for someone else. This is even more the case because ideas are cheap and plentiful-- why should several programmers slave away at your idea for no compensation, when they could do the same for their own ideas?

Third, even if you have in mind a revenue-sharing system or volunteers forever, you'll need money to actually run the game. Servers aren't free, advertising isn't free, bandwidth isn't free, and so on. Unless you've got a solid plan for how to make that happen, you're even less likely to get someone to work for you. No one wants to work on a game just to see it never get released.

And if you're going for revenue sharing, I doubt that you'll get the kind of applicants that you'll need. It's uncertain, it's far away, it's difficult to calculate in the first place, and it's hard to determine what would be fair. What portion would you assign to yourself, for instance?

If you have specific, well-reasoned plans for monetization, marketing, target demograhpic info, etc., you might be able to pull people in with (or possible no) cash upfront. As an MBA student you should have an idea of what sort of thing will be suitable. If it would attract an investor, it might attract a worker. But then again, it might make more sense to go to the investors first, who take risk inherently, so that you can hire staff with defined compensation. You'll get more and better applicants this way.

Help Wanted posts are not permitted outside of the Help Wanted board, and must be in the Help Wanted format. Try again! Closing.
