Just an idea came off my head, i want to know what you guys think.
this is an action game
Story takes place in acient china, so the story goes like any alien-invade-earth story, but in acient china, folks know martial arts, proabably can fly too.
On the other hand, aliens got high-tech guns and other high-tech stuffs.
But the theme is more bloody and mature like God of War, so its not like a fun theme as Jak and Dexter.

Just imagine the folks from Dynasty Warriors fighting against the alien folks from Crysis
The player controls a human that knows martial arts, and use it to defend against aliens.
When u beat up an alien, you can pick up their weapon, and use it.

I want you guys to focus on the setting and theme for now,
i think it is something new, i've seen aliens attack modern earth, but never an ancient civilization, though i might missed something.
i don't have much for gameplay at this point.

Look, if it's too stupid, just say stupid, i am very understanding.

Well that doesn't seem to be such a bad idea to me. But probably to others. Some people would just think that the thought of ancient China fighting off aliens kung fu would be ridiculous. Some people couldn't to wrap their minds around it. People are just accustomed to aliens being in the future and ancient china being in the past, as in they would be too hard to mix. Like mixing sci-fi with fantasy.

I think this would have to be implemented in a very light-hearted, "not taking itself too seriously" kind of way. If this was turned into a game with a serious tone then the theme is very questionable (if the aliens have technology to fly all the way to Earth then Kung Fu isn't really going to be much use against them). If I saw this as a quirky Xbox Live Arcade or Indie game then the title alone would make me look twice, but if this was thrown in my face as a serious concept then I would definitely ignore it.

Thanks GesterX, that is pretty much what i was trying to say.
Yeah, would work as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously...perhaps better if it was in 2D.
Imagine a realistic 3D game called "Plants vs Zombies"...would you play that? :)
Both futuristic aliens and ancient Chinese kung-fu masters are science fiction. In both cases, the hard data available is fabulously outweighed by the semi-absurd folklore, and the end result must be considered fabulous. I see absolutely no reason why a future-dwelling, raygun-shooting, starship-driving space-being would not be balanced--in gameplay terms--against an ancient-China-dwelling, kung-fu-knowing, energetic-chakra-envoking battlemaster. I have played me some Dynasty Warriors, and Zhou Yun's combos have destructive capabilities that rival thermonuclear weaponry. If you go ahead and let imagination run rampant, the generals of the Three Kingdoms period can go straight-up super-Saiyan and shoot down rocketships with their eyeball lasers and thunder-kicks.

Remember that both of the imaginary warriors are imaginary, and remember that both exist in a video game, and remember that you, as the game designer, have the power to assign merit, and strength, and other variable values to in-game entities such that a really badass roundhouse kick might stand head and shoulders above a star-crushing MASER discharge.

I think the aliens-invading scenario has been overdone. Extremely overdone. As in it has literally been burnt so excessively that it turned to ash.
Seriously though, when I saw that "Cowboys vs. Aliens" movie being advertised, I nearly puked. It's ridiculous how much they're milking this one scenario. It's almost as bad as Harry Potter...

Also, why would an enlightened kung fu master want to pick up an alien's weapon and use it instead of doing what he knows best and kicking/punching? Did they have guns in Ancient China, because if not then the kung fu masters probably wouldn't understand how to use an alien gun...actually, no one would know how to understand one right off the bat, even if it's a 'gun' it might have a different trigger system and such.

Sure why not. My concept GTA-styled GHETTOFABULOUS, where Pimps are Wizards and use Pimp Magic to wield their might, didn't get much acceptance either. I agree with Iron Chef Carnage
`as the game designer, have the power to assign merit, and strength, and other variable values to in-game entities such that a really badass roundhouse kick might stand head and shoulders above a star-crushing MASER discharge.`[/quote] Its all about presentation and delivery when comes down to it.
Martial arts against monstrous opponents might have some potential both for silliness and for smart fighting tactics, but the interesting side is the alien one: the aliens (who don't necessarily have high-tech resources, overwhelming weapons, and a simple conquest mindset) should be martial arts masters themselves, fight in the proper fun way (hand to hand in honorable duels or as hordes of easily dispatched mooks), and teach fighting techniques (as "experience" or more directly) instead of dropping weapons and other utterly inappropriate loot.
Do you plan on making it 3D (simplified and guided like God of War or Half-Life) or 2D (with both complex moves like Street Fighter II etc. and complex scenery like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs)?

hi,andyliteral

first impression of your idea is ridiculous.
fortunately,I am a Chinese guy.
As I know,It maybe a innovative idea,maybe a big joke.
the Key is make the people know Chinese culture think alien be reasonable and others
think martial arts be reasonable.

Make people know martial art can fight against some strong enemy is not hard.
first,I must tell you something about martial art, maybe something different form it.
Kongfu as you know, usually come up within the time 500-1000 years ago.
This theme we know well and the world is limited by history book and novel master.if we
add alien into it,every Chinese more 13 year old will think it rediculous.

because china Invented words more than 3500 years ago. And 13 years old children will learn Chinese history.

There is a good chance,3000 Year-old Jinsha Coming to Life.

the site tell us,people live there is mysterious and booming, but disappeared without a clue.
