Hi all!

this is my first post in gameDev forums :). I've been using SDL and Chipmunk for around 6 months now with the intention of making a small game. BUT, the problem is, I have no ideas.

I first planned on making a game like Forces (http://compsci.ca/blog/forces/), but I tried it out, and found it to be quite boring. So, I dropped the idea. I'd like a simple but fun idea that may be difficult to implement. I don't mind as long as it's a cool one :D.

P.S I'm in 9th grade, so I don't know a helluva lot of Physics, Maths, or Trigonometry, though I do know a fair bit of C++ (classes, inheritance, polymorphism , data structures and related concepts )
Thanks All!
Moving you to our Game Design forum...

...and my suggestion is to try one or more of the "Prototyping challenges" from Lost Garden:
  • Fishing Girl
  • Play With Your Peas
  • ShadeThese are good because a lot of the initial design is done for you, and because some or all graphics are provided. If you send in your completed game you'll also get feedback from an experienced professional developer. Shade looks particularly interesting to me and doesn't need any physics, perhaps you could have a look at it?

You could also try something simple such as a variation on one of the classics -- Breakout, Pong, Asteroids, etc.

    Hope that helps! smile.gif

I recommend Roger Von Oech's "Whack On the Side of the Head" series of books to spark your creativity.

What about a Rag-doll Masters type game. It is a type of beat-em-up game where you only control the head of the character and the rest of the character is handled by rag-doll physics.
Go to Kongregate and play some of their games. Think to yourself, "How can I improve on this idea/completely fix this awful idea," and then do it.
thanks for all the input guys! I really appreciate it :)
