Make sure your machine has at least 6 to 8 GBs of RAM and you'll be fine. And yes, Win7 is an improvement from WinXP. And that's saying alot because WinXP was good.
Well, I'm not gay, but I've used Windows 7 for a while now on my main work machine, and I'll say it's painful to go back to XP now. The killer feature for me has been the easy Windows-Right and Windows-Left keyboard shortcuts for moving windows to half-monitor sizes across my multi-monitor setup. Tiny thing, really, but works incredibly well and makes me more productive. Also, the searchable control panel and start menu.
Don't forget Windows 7 has many flavors. Home to Ultimate Advanced Lawnmower Lasers Edition 2020.

You, sir, are not making sense. Win7 can run just fine with 2GB of RAM. I suppose 4GB is optimal (which is what I have) and I'm still filling 2.5-2.8GB successfully with samples, cutting it pretty darn close to the practical limit of a 32 bit system (limited, in this case, by the DAW, not the OS).

Are you presuming that we are all gay, or are you only asking the gay community at GD.net their opinion?
Win 7 is actually pretty nice. I've kept my laptop running for just under 2 weeks without a restart only noticed a little bit of slowdown.
Only conveniences for me were that it automatically remembers WIFI passwords, even if you connect to another network, small+pin-able icons for the task bar, and automatically sorting games.
________
Hmmm funny how the community reacted to the obvious typo.

I have been using win7 for a while now and I really like it. I have 12 gigs of ram, but I think a minimum of 2 would still work fine. The window management has been great for me, and I like the task bar. There are other things, but it's not a bad time to upgrade.

He probably meant "guys". Just an FYI ryan20fun: That's a typo you want to avoid making in the future - some people will take it as an insult, and others will be insulted when they assume you're using the term as an insult, even when it wasn't directed at them. (I realize English is likely not your native language)
Quote: On a side note can someone please tell me how to use the little pics in post and other tags.
As usual, this kind of thing is covered in your local forum FAQ, please check it out:
Pros
-DPI setting is per-user
-Per-file backup functionality that is more convenient than System Restore and, in some cases, even dedicated revision control.
-Sticky Notes
-Defragmentation is transparent.
-Incremental search in Windows Explorer
-Easier to select multiple, non-contiguous files (They have checkboxes for this, if you have this turned on)
-Per-program volume control
Cons
-Powertoys aren't compatible (On the other hand, some are essentially built into the OS.)
-Taskbar is somewhat bigger than it needs to be.
-Sometimes when debugging with Visual Studio 2008, I can't easily get to my desktop, because the "Show desktop" command will suddenly stop working, only to begin working again after I have stopped debugging.
