The 360 S is more aesthetically pleasing than the playstation slim.

360>PS3...
The X360 marketing team is very pleased with you. Capitalism has conditioned you well...

I purchased a PS3 and 360, and currently only own a 360. I never realized how uncomfortable the Playstation controllers were until I switched back from the 360 controllers. A lot of the PS3 exclusives ended up not being exclusive, and those that still are exclusive were not enough to encourage me to keep the PS3. Lastly the online experience for the 360 is simply better.
Youtube has a great series on this. Search Xbox 360 v. PS3 and look for the one that is by technobufallo (not posted by, but done by them). I think it's in about 11 or 12 seperate videos. That should help you out, even thought the winner is not the 360. It has a lot of great facts.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

I prefer the PS3, but I'm biased. I grew up playing more PS then xbox, so the controls feel more natural to me on them. If I'm on xbox and someone says "Push A!", I have to think about it for a second.
But other than the controls, the included wireless and Blu-Ray were a big selling point for me. I also use my Netflix with it quite a bit, and they recently made it so that you no longer need the Netflix dvd, you can install it as an 'app' now, so you don't have to constantly switch the discs in and out. Also being able to play online for free was a plus.

Daaark mentioned the issue with the headset. I'm guessing XBox's works right away because it is actually plugged into the controller, right? That allows it to interface through the controller, where as the PS3 uses Bluetooth. I personally like the Bluetooth better, because I can use the same headset for my PS3 that I use on my phone.

My roommate has an XBox, and don't their controllers require AA batteries? The rechargable PS3 controllers are nice. It just sux that you can only charge them on the unit when it is on.

Also, PS3 has a program called Folding@Home, which is a protein folding simulation program that is being used for a lot of medical research. It's not really a selling point, but it's a cool feature.
Any differences between the hardware just don't matter anymore with the current situation of the game market.

Hardware wise I have a love/hate relationship with both.

PS3's RSX is pretty damned poor compared to the 360's Xenos GPU.

On the other hand SPUs, when used properly, are awesome for batch processing of data and can go some way to making up for the lost GPU power. I find myself wishing for them when doing something on the PC/360.

That said, the 360's CPU cores are a bit easier to code for as they are a more tradional threading setup than the PS3's PPE+SPE setup.

Some kind of hybrid of the two (plenty of traditional cores, some SPEs and a powerful DX11 class GPU) would be a really nice console to play with... *sigh* I can dream...
I myself have played both consoles and own a PS3. I like the PS3, and when you see the games that have been made exclusively for it, there are some seriously amazing games. My favorite example is of course Metal Gear Solid 4, and I guess Killzone 2 could be another example. So the right kind of effort put into the PS3 really does make it shine.

Killzone 2 looks incredible, but I really don't see what people find so visually incredible in MGS4. It's a fine game n all, but I don't see how it's so widely regarded as a visual masterpiece. Might just be personal taste though.

If people stop buying PS3's/PS3 games, then maybe we can stop writing software for Cell chips!
And why sir would we want to do that?
...*insert joke about how SPU programming is hard and we're lazy*...
