I'm playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow right now and overall the game is pretty solid. Visually it's incredible! But one of the biggest flaws I've seen so far in the game (and I'm only about 3-5 hours into it) is the score! It's terrible! Oddly enough the music by itself is fine. From what I've heard so far it works, seems well produced and gets the message across. But when paired with the game's visuals and pacing... it just doesn't fit to me at all. The end result is much of it isn't very memorable and is without impact. LoS is openly trying to be GoW and in many ways they've gotten close... but the music distracts from all of it.
When things should be tense, bombastic and gloomy - you'll hear somewhat peaceful or at least lighter music cue. Even when the music does kick in it doesn't have the depth and pure angst that other titles have. My wife, who isn't a musician, has even remarked that the music felt very off to her.
Anyone else on here notice this? I wish they had stuck with the Gothic, orchestral/rock/techno feel of Symphony of the Night. That... or at least done a better job emulating GoW's soundtrack.
Note: I've read some online reviews (both hobbyist and professional) that highlight the soundtrack uses some of the classic Castlevania themes. That would be a most welcomed change... but it seems I haven't gotten to that part of the game yet. Like I said earlier, I'm not too far into the game yet so maybe my impression of the music will improve? Here's hoping.

I found the music neither here nor there. It does have some short snippets of really awesome sounding, epic stuff -- but they're maybe five to ten seconds each, and then it's back to "meh."
There is maybe one classic tune in the game. It's obvious, and tied to a puzzle. You'll here it when you get there. But that's it. I don't know what the reviews are talking about, unless they have better ears than I do, none of the regular gameplay has anything Castlevania-like in it (audio-wise).
