Questions for WWise Users...

Been looking at WWise and it looks great. To the folks that are using WWise now, how would I go about getting started with this? That is..does WWise only work with Gamebryo, or are there other brands of gamedev software it plays well with?

If I want to get into programming my changes and organizing sound design with WWise, will I need gamebryo or...what was your approach when jumping into WWise?

Thank you kindly!
Wwise is integrated in several game engines including Unreal, Infernal, Gamebryo, but mostly in proprietary game engines.

To start with Wwise, I suggest you watch the video tutorials:
http://www.audiokinetic.com/en/learning-center/videos

Downloading the sample project (after having install Wwise) is also a good idea to get assets already created.

Finally, anywhere in Wwise, you can always click on the question mark icon on the top right corner of any view to pop the documentation.

Hope this helps,

Simon

Thanks simon, much oblidged. Yeah their tutorials are good and i think theres even a gamestate save of Cube game in a running engine or at least simulation thereof,to demo on from the download package.

Do you know by chance the filetype or platform name for the metadata that wwise outputs? (in terms of checking for compatability with other engines and plugins). In the audio world there are a few standard compatability types for production pipelines such as vst, audio units, etc. So trying to learn some game sound design tools standards, from that angle...

Thanks again simon!
Wwise outputs SoundBanks to be used by the various platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, etc.). There is no support for VST, AU, etc. for effect and source plug-ins: mostly because they will not run anyway with the platforms.

Audiokinetic produced a series of proprietary effects and also have a partnership with McDSP (Futzbox and ML1 maximizer).

Cheers,

Simon
Right, understood thanks!
