What is an audio engineer?

Got a lead on a company seeking an audio engineer, but I'm not sure I'm qualified and I couldn't find a steady definition online. What's the skill set for a gig like this? Do I need to know programming, such as C+ or whatever? I've done audio work for games before, developing sounds & stuff, but was never called on to program.
Don't worry too much about trying to grasp a standard definition, though I would say a standard definition would be someone with a recording arts background. Most companies don't know what an audio engineer is and are really just looking for an all-around audio guy.

I would stick to the requirements for the job--if you satisfy those that they list, then you're good to go.

Seriously though, Dan's response is good. I'll echo that.

Well, I guess I'm out of the gig, as the recruiter said he was looking for an audio PROGRAMMER. But I get to talk to him about it further, so it doesn't hurt to keep schmoozing.
