Get VSYNC from DVI

I need to get VSYNC from the graphics card to the controller of some old 3D glasses I have. When I was still using CRT, I would simply tap pin 14 of the VGA connector.
But I'm having a problem with LCD now. I know DVI has an analog VSYNC pin, but from what I can tell it's not activated if the monitor connected is digital. So how do I get the VSYNC signal then? I could use the second DVI port and hook up an analog monitor to it and set the same refresh rate and hope the two outputs are synchronized, but I no longer have an analog monitor available, and the graphics card seems to not produce an output on a port that's not connected...

Surely there are some hardware guys around that can help me out?

I'd be very surprised if your LCD worked with your shutter glasses once you take into consideration their generally sluggish response to changing pixel data, delay between receiving image data and displaying it and the linear polarisation of the light output (all LCD monitors I've looked at through my shutter glasses appear black as the polarisation is at right angles to that of the glasses).

That said, doesn't your monitor have VGA input?

It does have a VGA input, but quality would be affected if I use it for viewing. I will try to plug it in anyway and see if the input is not selected whether the card will detect the monitor nonetheless. Thanks for the idea.
