hi... right now im using WinMe (baAAH! i get BSOD every 2 minutes) i wanted to ask if i install win2k pro, will the Visual Studio be compatible with it? cause i installed WinXP Pro beta2 a while ago (now is deleted) and Visual C++ didn''t compile anything.. Is Win2k better for OpenGL programming? How about gaming? here''s my system : ================== 10gb WD HD ATI Radeon 64mb Vivo 166/166 (mostly not overclocked) 320 100Mhz SDRAM SBLive! (NOT 5.1 !!!!) CNet Pro200 Ethernet Card (for the ADSL) Creative DVD-ROM 12x Tamaha Burner 16x/10x/40x Asus P2B mobo P2 400Mhz (mostly not overclocked) Pinnacle''s TV Tuner PCI Card A Floppy so far this system has done well, even at playing Max Payne with all ops maxed out @ 1024*768*32bit.. but how will Win2k work on a sys like this ? (Performance and Programming Compatibility wise) And does Visual C++ 6 needs some special tuning to work under it? (ofcourse im talking about a visual studio with SP5, and Win2k pro with SP2) **> ATi Rules! nvidia doesn''''t...that simple! <**

Yep, in fact, I recommend you upgrade to Win2k - you won''t regret it!

It''s far more stable, there''s practically no compatability issues (that I''ve come across, anyway) and it''s far more stable.

Did I mention that it''s also far more stable?

I don''t know why VC++ didn''t compile anything under XP, I''ve never heard of that happening to anyway (though I don''t have XP myself to test it out).

BTW, I run both VC++ 6.0 and VS.NET beta 2 on the same machine with no problems... just thought I''d add that

Hmm ... VC++ works fine for me in XP.

i use win 2k pro + ms VC++ (sp 5) for opengl programming and its fine. there is one thing though, windows 200 pro is a bit slower than its 9x kernal counterparts but u wont notice much of a speed decrease...

I don''t know why you got a speed decrease. My AMD 700 with WinME ran slower than an AMD k6 3 333 with Win2k. I upgraded my 700 and it''s now it runs great.

If it''s graphics you may have an outdated driver. You usually can''t use a Win9x video card driver with Win2k.

If you are serious about your development, then use Win2K. The reason that Visual C++ would not have worked on your XP Pro Beta 2 would be that the OS was BETA. Visual Studio will happily run on any released 32-bit Windows OS.
