Skeletal reference for a male character:
He's stylized a bit by being six heads tall instead of the usual 7-8. In any case though, there aren't any anatomy or proportion problems you can notice, right?
My second question: I'm using Blender, and I'm thinking of modeling my character using all metaballs/metaobjects. I figure this would allow me to block in the figure quickly and also not worry about edge loops and weight painting when I do animations. The model will be used to make 2D sprites, and I'll likely trace over the sprites in Photoshop or Illustrator to produce the final sprites anyway, so I don't need an actual mesh. My thoughts on metaballs in Blender are mainly inspired by this article.
In any case, I'll likely make a female skeletal reference and post it here later.
Update
Made updates and created separate templates for males and females.
Male:
Female:
The difference is subtle, but I expect the differences to have an impact when I model figures on top of these references.

Skeletal References (also, question about Blender's metaballs)
