Hello gamedev,
I am currently making a game with DirectX 9. My problem right here is that I really don't want to keep the sample .X file from the SDK (tiny.x or tiny_4anim.x). I've searched the web for skinned meshes, but unfortunately I couldn't find one example of a .X file.
So, do you know any resources where I can find .X files with skinned mesh info?
Or better: What programs do you recommend me for creating my own skinned meshes and exporting them to .X?
Regards
Skinned Mesh (.X file)
Check out MilkShape 3D - from memory it has a plug-in for importing and (I think) exporting .x files.
Combining this with all the other import and export options means that even if you don't use Milkshape to create your models (I don't personally although I do use it in combination with UVWrapper to texture the models) you should be able to create them in the tool of your choice and then convert them to .x format.
Only warning - there is a license to use Milkshape after a 30 day trial period, but the price shouldn't break the bank.

Blender has .x file import and export capabilities and it is free.
No, I am not a professional programmer. I'm just a hobbyist having fun...
