Excited about the book

Tanstaafl, I just bought your book at a bookshop in Oregon (I''m out here on vacation). I wasn''t sure whether they''d have it or not, but they actually had 4 copies on the shelf! I''m really excited about getting into it, and I can''t wait to get home to try out some of the new techniques. Last night I learned an English idiom that I had never heard before: A "busman''s holiday" is when a person takes a vacation and spends his or her time doing the same thing that they do for a living. FragLegs,

I live in the Portland area if you get a chance to visit Portland, you should go check out Powell''s technical book store. It''s an amazing store, they also have a huge regular bookstore as well. I picked up Andre LaMothe''s Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus at the technical book store.

For the record, I''m not in any way associated with Powell''s, it''s just one of Portland''s landmarks like the rose gardens, and if you visit the city and like books, you have to see Powell''s however you may get lost in the store .

If you''re not in Portland, roughly what area are you visiting?

Enjoy your trip!

Sorry for not replying earlier. The whole "GameDev.net In Trouble" thing, compounded with finishing up a new book yesterday has taken up a lot of my time, so I haven''t been popping in on this forum as much as i should.

Thanks for buying the book. I hope you enjoy it.

Every copy sold allows me to purchase 6 boxes of mac&cheese, or 10 packets of ramen noodles. It doesn''t sound like a lot, I know, but after thousands of copies sold, that''s a whole crapload of mac&cheese and ramen. So far, i would have around 30,000 boxes of mac&cheese or 50,000 packets of ramen (which i believe is enough to fill up a medium sized swimming pool).

Get off my lawn!

Any chance you could send some noodles my way? I am out of cash until late September, and don''t know enough about any single subject to write a book about it
TANSTAAFL,

What is your new book going to cover? (Sorry if this is common knowledge to everyone else ) I just picked up a copy of your book as well and learned a great deal! Considering how much I paid for it, it hurts me to see that the writer only gets enough money to buy a few boxes of a really bad "pasta-like" food.

Anyway, thanks for passing along some of your knowledge to the rest of us, I only hope that I may do the same in a few years!

Hi all...

TAN ?? I''m planning on buying a copy of your book. And I was talking about it on the IRC Chat Network on this site, when some (I guess) girl (April) sad I could get a copy from you with a signature. Well I can''t let that oppertunity pass me, so what do I have to do to get one ??

PS. Hope it''s not a problem that I live in The Netherlands ?!?
Pal: if you ever need to delete a post you made (for example, a double post) click the Edit icon to the top right of the post, then select the ''Delete this post?'' check box before clicking ''Submit modifications''.
Wub:

I still have a copy left for sale(then i''ll have to get more). You can simply pay me through paypal (tanstaafl@gamedev.net). I charge $45+Shipping, which for the netherlands is $8.70, for a total of $53.70.

Get off my lawn!

Pal:

Powell''s Technical Books is, in fact, where I got TAN''s book. What an incredible store! Fortunately, I escaped with only a $75 bill, but I could have spent every penny I have. I feel sorry for you having to live so close to such a constant source of temptation. I am now safely on the other side of the country, back in ole North Cackalacky
I had a great time in Portland. Very cool city. I may have to move there sometime soon.
