I figured some people here might be interested in this. Proper 3D in the browser with the ridiculous install base and update rate of the flash player is a very appealing concept. It can also (I really shouldn't have to say this but people tend to forget) be used to make 2D games which run faster. As rendering speed is currently the biggest bottleneck in Flash this is somewhat of a big deal.
I may or may not have heard that this is real and working already, and the performance is actually good. It's worth mentioning since the last time we got "hardware acceleration" it only worked on video and made everything else slower. This time it's apparently for reals.
I am tentatively extremely happy.
Flash is getting hardware accelerated 3D

Good share! I've only started dabbling in AS3 but like a lot of things about the platform. Hopefully this will lead to the creation of a new market within a market of higher quality games Flash games.
heads up in case ppl dont know (antheus in the following thread, thus assume others as well)
3d hardware acceleration for browsers is hitting mainstream this year.

Ive been having a play around with chrome + performance is not too bad, certainly at least a order of magnitude faster than flash in the current form (though I assume flash 3d will also be as fast)
