Dmail, I agree with needing GLT, I just didn't really get too involved. It is incredibly obvious that there needs to be something done. You can pretend its not obvious by covering your eyes and not seeing the problems. What inspires the amateurs and kids who wont have this technology is the pros. When I was younger I played soccer because it was fun, and when I got older I pretended I was the star of USA and playing in the world cup, Or I was Ronaldo (every one I knew thought he was a god haha). Honestly, it's hard for me to stay passionate about anything where player skill is commonly not the deciding factor of the outcome.

I hope they find a good solution and fast.

Edit: I purposely made an argument from my own perspective because I am just a regular American kid who never made it past the basic local soccer leagues. I am at one of the "lower" levels without the GLT, and will probably never see GLT for my kids, grandkids, etc.

And what the hell went on in Felipe Melo's head?

Dunno. But I know what's going on in brazilian people's head right now.

Epic win.
Holland looked pitiful in the first half - Brazil was obviously the better team.
The local Dutch crowd went wild during the second half ;)
Ghana is having a very sexy game...

The Dutch team ruined the WCup's Holidays here :(

Back to the normal life of monstrous traffic jams here in SP again.
Terrible way to exit for Ghana. I guess cheaters can prosper! ;) Oh well, the PK was bad for hitting the bar.. at least make the keeper stop it!

BEST MATCH OF THE WORLD-CUP SO FAR! GREAT GAME!

GREAT GAME!

I feel bad for Ghana. They were so close - a goal denied then the penalty narrowly missed. But an entertaining match, full of drama.

I think it was dreadful that they broadcast so much of Gyan's torment when there was a lot of other things going on around the pitch, the poor guy.
If Ghana ever figures out what to do when they get the ball into the attacking third they will be scary good. As for their goal keeper... fans of Watership Down might describe him as "tharn".

No I fully understand your point and disagree with it. I feel there is no need for GLT in the game and there is no need to separate the amateurs and professionals either with this technology or rules.

The need for GLT in the game was made obvious by the numerous bad calls in this World Cup. We wouldn't be discussing the issue if the need wasn't obvious.

I would not say it was obvious, There were mistakes made by the officials like there is every week at every level. If there is a need to do something about it then as already mentioned in this thread goal line officials are an answer which can be used at every level.

We wouldn't be discussing the issue if the need wasn't obvious. If it's not obvious to you, then dare I say you might be oblivious? [grin]

But you are trying to separate the levels that play the game, there is no way on earth that every ground even in England could have this technology installed. My argument is that any separation is bad and unneeded.

The levels that play the game are already separated, so your argument is spurious. Every ground in England doesn't need GLT installed. Look at tennis, for example. In 2007, "high-speed multi-camera technology" was installed at Wimbledon [1]. Since that time has it been installed on every court in England? If not, has that separation been bad for British tennis? I very much doubt it.

Anyway this is going round and round, but I must say you are the first person I have had this conversation with that has not come round to my way of thinking. Yet you do not give an convincing arguments of why it should be used.

There's not much need for an argument when you've got several bad calls during the cup to point to as reasons in favor of GLT. Botched calls changed the outcome of games. That's simply unacceptable at the highest levels of play.

I've missed something... what's the gay/lesbian/transgender community got to do with the world cup?
