Quote: Original post by KatieYou seem to claim that you actually do know something about Haskell (that's what I'm referring to since that's what the strong opinions were all about; sorry if that was unclear) which is obviously not true since you didn't recognize extremely simple, idiomatic Haskell. I'm curious; how did you form your opinion about the language?
"I find your strong opinion about something which you don't know the first thing about amusing."
Guess you don't.

I'm sure if you got a bunch of contractors and told them they had to build a building but could only use 1-2 tools, but they could build other tools with those tools, there would be a lot of debate in their community as well.
Not really. Any contractor who knows enough about old school trades would know the only tools you need to make every other tool in the world, (Even a nuclear reactor!) are human hands, and a hammer. (And you can skip the hammer, as you can always make that too.)
Those of lesser moral standing however, may suggest a lockpick and an unguarded job site of a competitor.
Personally, I mostly work in Python as a high level language to make calls to small chunks of C. I've never been the biggest fan of C++, or working in large projects with other people. I find the lack of consistency in style, and some programmers insane temptations to pack as much into as few lines of code as possible to be just painful.
"You just compressed 12 lines of code into 3? Good for you. Does it run faster? No. Does it use less memory? No. Ok, now what the hell is this doing again?"

Hey pot, meet kettle.
Did you just call yourself a kettle?
I wonder how badly you would hurt me if I asked for tea.
