I'm looking for a career...
I'm looking for a career. Game Design is near the top of my list. But I'm not interested in a 'soft' degree, or becoming a programmer. I want to know if a practical degree such as Architecture/Structural Engineering would get me a job working within the games industry. Possibly as a consultant or level designer for example. Is there a demand for certain specialised real world knowledge in the games industry?
Level design. Environment art. But nobody can foretell your future for you.

No it won't. But it will help you get a job as part of your overall package of skills. You will also need a good portfolio of level design work, a well laid out resume and the ability to interview well.

Design is about creating worlds. Any skill that can be used to understand/build the real world will be useful in creating fictional ones. An understanding of Architecture, linguistics, history, mythology, etc etc would all be useful.

Ok that's cool. Kind of what I would expect. I'm sort of a generalist, so my range of skills is broad. I have a portfolio of music, level design, graphic design, web design and film. But I've realised those interests aren't guaranteed to get me a job on their own. So I've decided to specialise and leave my options open. Over the many years I may yet spend at university, my portfolio should really keep growing and improving! It just depends on which degree course will keep me interested...
