what is the best software to use for windows based games, and do you know any good sites for source? please
The best development software in my opinion would be Microsoft Visual C++ 5 or 6, its packed with features and is 100% compatible with OpenGL and DirectX, though you will need to pay around $160 for the basic package, more for the optimized PRO version. If you cannot afford VC++, use the Borland C++ compilier. Its free, and its just as good as MS CV++ according to many programmers who use it.

Go to www.winprog.com if you need a tutorial and source code for Win32 API programming. For game specific code, check out the GameDev tutorials and Download.com for the source code to some commercial games.
