How'd you come up with your profile name?

I always use "Simian" as my username when it's available. It contains my given name (Ian), and I have always loved primates for some reason or another so it fits me very well. Unfortunately some ass registered "Simian" to make one post here, so I had to append the "Man".
Way back when I first came here my favourite game was FF6 and my favourite character was Locke... so I made a pun of it. I didn't really think I'd be here using the name for this long and oh boy it's been a long time.

Maybe it's finally time for a change.

I think the name originates somewhere back in the 90's when I first got online. I needed a nick, so chose the cool air pirate from Disneys 'Tale Spin', and the name just stuck with me.

I'm not really much of a mighty pirate in real life, but at least I find pirates interesting, their history and way of life. Pirates are just way cooler than ninjas, but later I've come to regret the rather infantile handle, that even results in insulting spam emails addressed to "Dear Don".

My GameDev nick should have been 'DonCarnage', but I made a mistake and who cares?
It is I, the spectaculous Don Karnage! My bloodthirsty horde is on an intercept course with you. We will be shooting you and looting you in precisely... Ten minutes. Felicitations!
At the time, I was very into 'The Crow' (still a fan), and professional wrestling (not so much anymore), counting 'Raven' among my favorites. I changed the spelling but kept the pronunciation -- which most people, as XBox Live has proven, don't get until they ask.

Also, I'm a bit of a goth kid at heart, so I like the association of 'raven' with the darker mythos of life and with Edgar Allan Poe.

I had also gone by 'Neo' until 'The Matrix' came out and every kid with a computer suddenly wanted to be called that, '[DM] Xero' when I spent my spare time sniping fools in 'Delta Force 2', and 'Socratic Method' during my ever-so-brief foray into hacker circles, until I realized what a bunch of mindless tards and script kiddies most of their community seemed to be made up of.

My name is Ben Ryves and I lack inspiration.

My real name is Jeffrey, and my mom wanted to spell it Geoffrey (luckily dad didn't let her).
What's wrong with spelling it Geoffrey? That's how it's spelt over here.

I bet you can guess mine, it's pretty obvious. I added an extra "i" to Ninja Gaiden. I'm part Japanese as well as both a gymnast and a martial artist, so many of my friends have long called me a "ninja". (Although I've never practiced Ninjitsu, unlike some lucky mofo)

And yea it's still pronounced "Guy-den" :P

Bonus is that I've never had trouble registering my nickname anywhere, and Google knows very well who I am as that nickname :)

And as usual, let me dig into my well-stocked bookmark archive and render this thread obsolete. Again.

I was working on a trapezium(GB)/trapezoid(US) based research project at the time I had to think of a name. I also remembered an awful geometry based superhero comic I scribbled on the back of a math exam in school, so I made myself up a character name in the same vein.
Esys is a contraction of EngiTech Systems; a clan of nothing but engineers during my TF2 days. Also used EngiTech Systems to sign scripts for DarkSigns; a VB-based hacker simulation that featured it's own scripting language (which I used to write a rogue-like RPG).

Since then, I've used it for everything that I'd need an alias for.
When I was ~14 years old I was working on a Red Dwarf trivia game. Everything was postfixed with a "soft" back in those days. I thought "dwarf" was similar to "micro" as they both implied small, so away I went. Also, I was working on a Text Based Adventure game at the time as well, and it did involve Fantasy elements, which again validates the dwarf bit.

Anyway, 14 years later and I am still using it ;)
