Know a good public domain font resource (NOT ttf)?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, except that it's in bold/block letters as opposed to something that approximates serif, Times New Roman, Ariel or some other inartistic font. I'm not picky, I just need something to display simple text messages and numbers, nothing fancy. The resolution is fairly irrelevant, as I'm only going to use it for an approximation of 12pt font and I'm not expecting to ever enlarge it past that. I tried google, but all I could find were true type fonts and the occasional font that wasn't aligned and didn't conform to the ASCII standard (ie, character 33 was not '!', and 'A' was not in position 65).
I'm terrible even with paint at getting things aligned. If anyone knows a handy resource I might be able to tap into, or has a link to a font that has no licenses attached, I would be much appreciative. Thanks.
note: I need only represent characters 33~126. Anything more is great, but if it happens to be lacking, I don't mind - so long as everything is aligned properly. A file that omits the first 32 is also non problematic: it's simple enough to apply a transform as long as it's a contiguous omission.
I haven't looked for a while... but there should be some free tools around to generate those images from TTF files. If you find one, you could use any font/size installed on your system to make a new bitmap for yourself =D

BitStream has release their Vera font comes with a very permissive license.

Angel Code's BMFont is nice for turning True Type Fonts into bitmaps. You don't have align the characters because it generates a file that gives the position of a given character in the bitmap along with it's height and width.
