game play advice?
HI--I'm an instructional designer (not a game designer) and am hoping to tap into the expertise of this group. One of my former grad students and I are creating a distributed, team-based leadership development program. We have expertise in leadership development, and have a sense of some gameplay we'd like to include in this program (this is not online) but we are not game designers and would definitely benefit from input from game designers. It's a multi-week program with a short-ish amount of learning/application completed individually each day. We'd like to have some kind of weekly team challenge where participants capitalize on what they learned M-Th to "qualify" for one of multiple levels of challenge. The idea is to incent participants through the game to learn more to qualify for higher levels of challenge. I know it's not much to go on, but we'd surely appreciate any ideas or brainstorming or advice you might have for us! We'd also be interested in having a phone chat (pro bono or modest fee) with someone that could help move us further down the track on the game design. Thanks! Robin
Is your project anything like this? --> http://www.gamecareerguide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3318

It's *exactly* like that (that's a post by the guy working on this with me--nice memory/catch Tom! :-)
Well, knowing of the existence of that thread might inform contributors in this thread. Sorry I have nothing to add.

Perhaps if you told us a bit about the kind of gameplay you are currently envisioning we might be able to provide some feedback or suggestions for how to refine and extend it. Generally, people tend to get a lot more out of their posts on this forum if they ask for feedback about a more concrete idea or gameplay mechanic, rather than by asking very broad and open-ended questions.
For example, it is not clear from your post exactly what you mean by a "game" in this context. Are you asking for ideas for interactive challenges to assess learning/development of skills?
