How would it work?
I don't know if you guys have talked about this yet, but let me just throw it out there in the hope of some good debate. Activison have mentioned a COD MMO, thats right Call Of Duty (FPS) Massively multi player Online. I don't care to much if you think it will be fun or will work, or if they are even going to do it. Lets just say they are going to do it, how would you imagine it would pan out? Is it going to be a World of Warcraft type deal with a whole big map and you have to level up a character or the more focused battle for land each day basis that EndWar tried to create? Do you think it will be a make believe country? A real one? Do you think there will be quests? maybe other skills that aren't related to killing? Will it continue with the aftermath of the current story? I hope it will personally. But, the question is, How do you hope/think it will plan out?
The "MMO" tag gets thrown around so much now and stuck on so many games that are clearly not Massive in terms of the amount of people playing them. If anything I think it will be another arena based FPS with some RPG elements mixed in. I doubt it will have a persistant world but could have some specific maps made to hold persistant areas with 24/7 type objectives, similar to what is talked about in Global Agenda.
I think MAG would be something similar to how I see it being done but honestly I've never really played much of the COD series, Its a Zzzz for me ^^

My guess would be some sort of "staging area" where you link up with players in your team or that are going to teh same drop point that you are. Then your group is dropped off by a C130, or transport of some kind into a big "zones" battle field.
MAG may be like that. I haven't played it.

If I was designing the game, I'd like to see you load into your base which is where you can link up with people and then you could load into instances which would either be co-op missions against AI (like campaign), or you'd jump into multiplayer battles. I'd add RPG elements for different perk and weapon unlocks (the multiplayer VS and co-op missions could unlock different but similar things so that people who prefer one over the other still have incentive to play the other but aren't punished).
While that might not be a traditional MMO per se, it is a nice way to create a massive online user base feel more like a community.

I think it would really cool to see a few different areas; say a western european front, an eastern european front and a japanese front. One would choose what army they would be a part of: The Nazi army, Russian, Japanese, American, something to that effect. You could free-roam the areas, they would have battlefront, as well as small towns or bases/camps, where one would be able to re-supply, get quests, upgrade/buy weapons. One would start as a private, or the equivalent, advancing as you gained exp.
...something like that.
If i missed anything, feel free to add.
i think it would be pretty fun though.
the more i thought about it, the more i realized how fun that would probably be.

A bit scatter-brained...Please forgive any grammatical errors or incomplete though--

And what is YOUR thinking, Punk? Why don't you start by sharing YOUR thoughts on the question you posed?

Yes, what do I think?
Well I hope to heaven that they don't do something that has already been done. Given their current success there will be a lot of pressure on them to bring the franchise forward. If they follow the standard MMORPG line then they will fail in my eyes, as that would result in an open world scenario with plenty of people to kill? In areas with little to no population, I guess they could sell it off as a sort of mercenary badlands thing, but again to little from them. Though that may sound a little more exciting, the whole open world running around shooting everybody on one big map and capturing points etc. It's not, from their view, the right way to go. The right way to go would be to follow EndWar, I know what I said, it's been done before. But if you take the basic idea which is to divide the world up into hex's of sorts, each with their own map, then give three armies the chance to fight it out for the whole world based on a "The side with the most wins each day gains that territory".
They could take this idea and do something with it, instead of hexes they should have actual fronts (like RedFawks said) that move with the wins and losses of every battle not just the sum of all the battles, that would make for a lot more fluid game play, with players having to select fronts and parts of lines that might be failing, so that these front's matches are never over but with players jumping in and out. That’s the basic concept, also obviously with the customization that Call of duty is most known for, done by rank and achievements.
I would also add in key structures (to vary the game play) Like air fields, nuke sites, etc. And the players playing a certain match on a certain front would only have access to kill streak bonuses if key structures were captured in the region. On the story side of things, well we have pretty much had world war 3 started, the Russians doing the naughty with a bit of mischief by that general but we don't really hear what happens after that, do the Russians control everything?
I reckon that the story should take place straight away, and get more people involved, I know that most of the action is between USA and Russia with a little British SAS action in there but this game should involve more countries so that the battlefield was more divided, for example I would have USA striking back against Russia occupation with the help of Canada and other countries including Britain and Australia (maybe EU or commonwealth as a whole) but also the Chinese striking up against and through Russia, so that the Russians have a lot to deal with but most of the territory. I would also have some AI nations in the mix to vary game play,
I would have Arab countries as an AI power that would fend of fiercely their land with the same rules as player controlled powers. Also perhaps Japan and Brazil, you know just to complicate invasions. Now its not to simple, obviously, with a lot of maps and a lot of programming but if they don't give us something to top Modern warfare two, then their studio will be in trouble, mainly from me.
That is just off the top of my head, I will probably read it later and think what was I talking about, so take it with a pinch of salt.
