turn based strategy games
Can anyone recommend games similar to www.weewars.com (loading now - edit).
Games should be
- Turn based
- Multi-player
- Email notification of your turn
- Either web based or downloadable
- Some type of warfare
- Preferably hex tile based
Thanks

You might like this flash game: Battalion: Arena. It's advanced wars basically. I prefer the single player though.
Yea, had found battalion arena before.
I am surprised there are no more recommendations. Are there really no other games that fit the above requirements. Obviously, chess comes close.

i wish they would do this with Total War. I'd love to play my mates at the turn based game over many months.
Wesnoth meets all of your requirements except for the email part. It's the bees knees.

Hah! Been years since I looked at Wesnoth. Man has it come a long way. What an amazing development that game has had. A good model for community developed games.

Age of Wonders fits, except for the email.
May be tough to find someone to play with though. It's ten years old, but I really liked it.

If it could be days for players to get back with their next move, and a game could last for months, couldn't you write what would basically amount to a pen'n'paper strategy game? One person could be designated to handle the board (although I would figure most players would want to keep some representation themselves to avoid cheating) and players email their moves.
With a game moving that slowly, what is the advantage of it being a computer game? Complex calculations and tracking of many pieces and variables?
