Fantasy FPS?
I've noticed that while most first-person shooter games are set in the modern day or close to that time, most games with a pre-modern or fantasy theme are RPGS using a third-person perspective. Has anyone ever made a fantasy/pre-modern game with a first-person perspective---in other words, a fantasy FPS?
I've played The Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, I think its a fantasy FPS.
There was hexen:

and dark age of camelot

I'm glad someone remembers Hexen still :D There was also Thief and its sequels, of course. Arx Fatalis is first person, too, and so is Arcatera.
The S in First Person is for Shooter, so just having first person perspective isn't enough for that category IMHO. There are _many_ first-person perspective RPGs. Especially back in the 90s. The Black Eye series (Star Trail etc, although the actual combat was on a separate isometric map), Betrayal at Krondor (again, combat on a hex map, travel in first person), Ultima Underworld, the entire Might and Magic series...

What was that big thing that used to be floating around in video form? Project Outlook or something like that? Had some compelling images and footage, but never amounted to anything, as far as I know.
Edit: It's Project Offset, and apparently they're still working on it.

the problem with fantasy fps is you dont have guns, and guns work best in fps. You can have melee attacks, but in fps its kinda choppy to try to hit, it gets a bit boring. You can have bows and magic ranged attacks but they are all not very suitable for fps gameplay. Thats the main reason why not so many fantasy fps:es.

You need to play Dark Messiah. I can never get tired of kicking orcs into spikes, into fires, or off vertical cliffs. ^_^;;;
American McGee's Alice could qualify as a fantasy FPS. It's quite cool, very twisted: ">trailer. But it's not orcs and elves. [smile]
