You know when Google has a special logo on special occasions? I think this one is only visible in Belgium and The Netherlands, but it's the best Google logo ever imho so I wanted to share it with the rest of the world :) It's because Sesame Street is 40 years old today.
Hmm, I never see these - probably because I'm still going here.

Well, more accurately, here. Same shit, though, really.

It's also on google.co.uk. Google really does have the best logos. And the cleanest interface. You can view past logos here
It's up in the States as well. I agree, best ever!
Finland too.
Wow another crap thread today...
Bing has a nice picture on its homepage (and a cropped version on the results page) every day. Today's is a fireworks scene, being bonfire night in the UK.

That said, do people really use search engine home pages? Searching from the address bar is a lot quicker!

The 40th anniversary of Sesame Street has put this strange bit of info back into the news: Sesame Street... For Adults Only? (Jan. 17, 2008)

Quote:
CBS) There's something wrong with a picture from the original Sesame Street - little children riding bicycles without helmets.

Other scenes, too, from the original Sesame Street could be too seedy for today's kids, CBS News correspondent Richard Schlesinger reports.

The first few seasons have just been released and come with, of all things, a warning.

"These early Sesame Street episodes are intended for grownups and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child," the warning reads.

'Sesame Street's' been swept, but the magic of show remains (November 5, 2009)

Quote:
(CNN) -- In the early days of "Sesame Street" -- that is, B.E. (Before Elmo) -- Sesame Street was a pretty grimy place.

The brownstone at 123 Sesame Street looked like it needed a serious power washing, the storefront of Mr. Hooper's shop was intentionally dingy and the Fix-It Shop's window was cluttered with toasters. It was gritty, but gritty in a magical way.

When the show started in 1969 ("Sesame Street" will celebrate its 40th anniversary on November 10), the concept of educational television programming was nothing short of revolutionary. "Sesame Street" was originally intended as a learning tool for inner-city children -- not only as a supplement to their lessons in math and the ABCs but to teach them to be good people and show them that learning can be fun.

On the DVDs, Cookie Monster can be seen as his character of Alistair Cookie in his "Monsterpiece Theatre" segment (a spoof of Alistair Cooke's "Masterpiece Theatre") smoking a pipe.

Yep, Cookie Monster smoked.

He later eats the pipe because, as he was often prone to doing, he thinks the pipe is a cookie. Cookie Monster used to become so overwhelmed by his desire for cookies that he'd start seeing (hallucinating about?) cookies that weren't actually there. He'd eat (rotary) telephones, typewriters (what are those?), pencils, almost anything. It was funny.

Early "Sesame Street" had some other elements that would not pass muster today. Oscar the Grouch is just plain nasty, children are seen riding their bikes without helmets, and there's even a sketch where the human character of Gordon can be seen approaching a little girl on the street. He takes her by the hand and brings her into his house for milk and cookies (again with the cookies!). Clearly, that could be misinterpreted by today's standards.

Warning lables on Sesame Street DVD's - What will they think of next?

"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes." - the Laughing Man
I remember a while back they had Cookie Monster singing a somewhat anti-cookie song, labelling them as "a sometimes food". It got a bit of attention on the news, and after showing the clip, the newscaster said, "Really? That's just wrong." I couldn't agree more. I guess every famous character has to be a role model nowadays.

They did have some other BigBird logo up (for the US?), but I agree that this one is awesome.
