Freaks and Geeks

Has anyone else seen this show? It aired on NBC in 1999, but sadly it was canceled after one season. It later ran on both ABCFamily and FoxFamily where it gathered quite a cult following. The series follows a brother a sister who are each part of their school's geek and "freak" crowd, respectively. However, the sister is trying to be cool and make the transition into the freak crowd from the geeks. For anyone who grew up being in either of these crowds, the show is likely to make a connection with you as well (I would probably have been considered in the "freak" crowd). You will particularly love it if you came of age in the 80's, and there are tons of great quotes and story lines surrounding things from the period ("Should I wear Hai-Karate or Old Spice?"). It is a great show that is well worth checking out. Even though it only ran for one season, the last episode (which was supposed to be the season finale) closes out the series quite well. It is available on DVD and it is surprisingly not that expensive. If the title speaks at all about your youth, you will likely love it.
Loved it. Was sad to see it end, but glad to see so many of the actors in it made quite an impact afterwards. Are any of the episodes on the DVD non-aired episodes?
You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.

We will have to put this one along with "Firefly" and "Dead Like Me" in the "We all regret this series got screwed up" section.

Yes, it is quite sad. Particularly considering that I heard NBC hardly gave the series a chance to begin with. I think it started in prime time, but by the 2nd or 3rd episode, it had been moved back to 10pm. I am not sure if that is true, as I did not see its initial airing, but I have heard it from several different people.

Yes! I believe only up to episode 15 or 16 aired on NBC and ABC Family. There are 3 additional episodes that came on the DVD. When the series aired on Fox Family (very briefly), I believe the 3 "lost episodes" aired once. The 3 extra episodes bring a lot more closure to the series, as these were intended to be a season finale.

I had heard this was good. Hulu doesn't have it, though. :(
I found what appears to be most of the episodes on Veoh.com. However, I am not sure if they legally have the rights to show it (not sure if this is user uploaded, or something like Hulu).

Yup! I thought it was on longer than one season though.

I wish it had, but sadly, it was just one 18 episode season. Maybe you saw some of it on NBC, and some more on one of the Family channels it ran on a year or two later.

It's an excellent show, and you used to be able to catch re-runs of it on the Canadian channel Showtime. I don't know if they're still doing that, though.

Definitely hunt down the DVDs that were printed as well, though they might be hard to come by now.

If you like Apatow films, this is one of his earlier works (and honestly a lot better than his films, in my opinion). It was created by Paul Feig, who hasn't really gone on to much - but he did a bang-up job here.
