Unity 3D is now free!
Video tutorials annoy me as well. I like to work with my TV or music going, and I've got to turn those down if I want to watch a video tutorial. It's also more annoying to pause and try something out, skip to the next section, go back over something and so on. What's wrong with text + screenshots?

A large portion of the Unity userbase has been artists and people moving from Flash to build web games and they seem to prefer video tutorials much more than text.
Is it really free as in beer or just free to try and if you like it you gotta pay big bucks?

Yeah it's free for hobby development. A few features are missing but I'd imagine it's still up there with the best free tools on offer, considering all the stuff it includes.

Yeah when you first start it up it'll take you to a webpage that list the features in the pro edition that are missing from the free version.
Mostly advanced stuff and profiling,etc.
p.s. If anyone has DEP enabled you need to disable it or add the unity.exe to your list of exceptions because I was thinking it wouldn't run on Win7 x64, which I'm using, because it would quit without an error message or anything.
[size="2"]Don't talk about writing games, don't write design docs, don't spend your time on web boards. Sit in your house write 20 games when you complete them you will either want to do it the rest of your life or not * Andre Lamothe
And if you would hit the big win with it I don't think you would have any problems paying the professional license, so its win/win
