Keygen music
Hey.
Recently I was thinking about music for my game wondering about the type and who i should pay to make it, but today i remembered how much i used to enjoy some of the synthesized music that came with game keygens (back when some of us were still copying games :P) and I realized that some of those tracks would go nicely with my game. Anyway. I google'd and found this site www.keygenmusic.net that has a large listing of keygen music but i'm struggling to figure out the legal status of those individual tracks.
Can i use them for free? should i ask? who should i ask? should i pay? who should i pay? etc. etc.
Any direction appreciated.
Thnx in Advance!
What you are referring to are chiptunes and other music made with trackers. You could poke around tracker communities like Trax In Space and ask a few authors if they're willing to let you use their music.
STLport | Lua | Squirrel | Doxygen | NASM | bochs | osdev | Ruby | FreeBSD | Zend Framework 2 | YUI 3 | VP UML| ZFS | Linux Mint (Cinnamon)
Some of the old keygens used small software synths to create their music. Software synths can be a lot smaller than sample-based tracker music and they also have their own peculiar sound. 4 and 64 kilobyte intros also use soft synths because of their smaller size and better sound quality compared to tracker music in the same amount of data. Using tracker music modules is a lot simpler codewise, tho.
