StumbleUpon ( + LucidChart)

Anyone know how StumbleUpon really works? I ask because my web app LucidChart got a few thousand visitors coming in from StumbleUpon today, and I can't see it featured anywhere special on their site. I've had three spike days from them before with about a thousand hits on those days. Most days I get just a handful. Anyone have a link to what page these people are probably coming from? [edit] Title updated to reflect conversation on LucidChart. [Edited by - BeanDog on October 27, 2009 5:08:59 PM]
Wikipedia has a brief overview of how it works.

I joined it ages ago, but never really got into it. However, they kept sending me "recommended" sites via email for a long time (until I could be bothered to unsubscribe anyway) so my guess is that your site probably got into one of those emails (the tracking for the emails probably causes all clicks to first go to the StumbleUpon site and then redirected to your site, which is why you "saw" clicks coming from there).

I don't know.
However, if you made that App, I'm impressed.
You shouldn't be surprised about the thousand hits.

Thanks :-)

The hits from StumbleUpon are nice, but they're really poorly qualified. LucidChart typically converts about 18% of all new website visitors into free account holders, and that number is more like 1% for StumbleUpon visitors.

Holy crap, I have been looking for something like your site for a while. Seriously, I would not be surprised about getting more hits, either. It is kind of odd that they are all coming from one site, though. I am not familiar with StumbleUpon, though.

However, why aren't you trying to get this out a bit more (you say you are only getting a handful a day)? Your site looks very professional, and the app looks awesome.

Thanks for the compliments :-) I am trying to get it out there more. We actually have a few hundred new unique visitors every day, the "handful" I was referring to was hits coming from StumbleUpon. I'm in the process of finding a small (~$250K) investment to take LucidChart up to the next level; I'm betting I can turn a few hundred a day into several thousand a day within a year with some good SEO and modest marketing and advertising. At that point, it'll be quite profitable.

I actually have a meeting in two hours with a guy who has personally sold the paid edition of Google Apps to several thousand businesses. Hopefully he'll have some good ideas on how to move forward on this.

So as long as you're listening, anyone who's interested in working with me in marketing LucidChart, or who is or knows an investor who would be interested in a venture like this, PM me!
