Creativity in game development
I'm sure some other people here have probably read this as well, but I found a very compelling article on creativity on kotaku.com that was just recently posted. Bang, Bang, Is Creativity Dead? As game developers, I think it's important for us to consider the topics in this article. As developers working on non-commercial and low-budget (or even no-budget) projects, it is up to people like us to try to supply the gaming industry with fresh ideas. Large companies are in the business to make money more so than to make games they think will be fun. That being true, they are much less likely to try and put out a game, especially a big-budget game, that employs new and creative ideas; things that haven't been tested in the market. Hope you all enjoy. It's a great read.
Creative Juice! Oh yeah, risky exploratory behavior -- gotta love it :)
There's plenty creative types in the industry. Just look at the credits for Command & Conquer 3 -- it's miles long. And some games are little more than a platform to exhibit virtual art.
So I wonder if maybe it's evolved from a separation of the art department from those darn nerdy code monkeys, or some similar such derailment of worth.
