Not too long ago, I saw that the Penny Arcade Expo begins this comming Friday. I plan on taking a trip up there one of the three days it's open. The main reason I wish to go is to meet some industry professionals up close and personal. I own this video game business book and one recommendation was to build up a rolodex by going to major video game conferences and industry related events. So, would the PAX be a good place to meet some of the pros and hopefully get a few business cards in my hands? Thanks.
I would say it wouldn't hurt you to try. There's often some big names going to PAX.

I hope you got a pass already, last I heard they were all sold out. There may still be one-days available though, but I'd check it out ASAP.

Darn! I would have gotten a badge, but I didn't know about this even until last week. I assumed that I could just walk in and pay $35 USD, but I guess I'm out of luck. Oh well... anything else going on video game related in Seattle before the end of the year?
I went last year and saw a few people exchanging resumes and contact info. I'm sure you can strike up a few good contacts inside the industry -- if you can get in. You also missed the "Casual Connect Seattle" event in July. It was ALL about networking and exchanging info (sort of like a job fair, industry expo, forum, party, marketing blitz). If there's another one in Seattle, you should find a way to get inside.

For what it's worth, I bought a one day pass at the door last year. I can't imagine that they'd change things up too much, but you never know. You're semi-local, so you have less risk in case things don't work out, so you should try and check it out anyways.
There are no door passes. None. Do not show up, you will not be let in. It is sold out and anything past that is breaking fire code regulations. I know, I've been following them on twitter and they keep saying it over and over again. Shit outta luck I'm afraid.

Tough break to only hear about the show now but PAX has been around for years so it's not quite gonna fly as an excuse. It'll be there next year. Mark your calender.

That said if anyone here is going to be at the show I'll be around at the "Simon Fraser University" booth (hurray for getting your school to pay for things), tucked into the "indie" corner of the expo hall. Just ask for Evan, say hi, yell at me for flaming you at some previous point at time... which I have probably done, I'm sure. It'll be good times.
