Online, offline, hybrid? What game type do you prefer?

I don't think the OP is talking about multi/single-player...

I prefer to at least have the option of a completely offline installation; not only does this allow for play when an internet connection is temporarily unavailable, but it also guarantees I'll still be able to play if the company/service providing the game goes out of business or decides to no longer support the game.

I do however also appreciate the convenience of being able to play a game without installing it first, as well as being able to pick up my game and continue playing from different locations as long as an internet connection is available.

Aside from tiny flash and java games, I'm not aware of any "online (storage)" games that don't pretty much install themselves anyways. Sure, you need a bookmark to access them, but they'll use some technology (whether a third party browser plugin or their own) to download tons of data to your machine. The only way they're "online only" is that the game won't run unless you can access their website.

I hate games like that. I you're going to put files on my computer, you should let me make use of those files as long as I have them. I hate the interface for "battlefield heroes" - click on the shortcut in start menu, which opens a website. Click launch on the website, and it'll run a launcher program. Once the launcher program loads and updates, it'll tell you you're not logged in, open the login page in your browser, and then close itself. Once you've logged in the website, you have to navigate to the "play now" page which has the launch button, click the launch button to get to the launch page, then click launch to start the launch program, which takes 30 seconds to load, then you can click another button to actually run the game.

I also hate "semi-online (storage)" games that run under systems like steam. I recently had to do a manual profile recover on windows XP because steam automatically downloaded (without any prompts or permission) enough stuff to completely fill my windows partition. I don't own that many steam games, so I have no idea what it downloaded, but it broke my computer and took far too much of my time to repair. I haven't reinstalled steam since, and I don't miss it. Next time I feel like playing through half-life, I'll just download the latest pre-steam patch and go with that.

QFMFT. I would like the option of kicking ass by myself or playing with my people I know are not retards. I do apologize for being crude.
