New RAGE Trailer!!!
In other id (and Raven) related news, Wolfenstein is supposed to be out today. I was really doubtful on this one because the early media looked kind of ugly and choppy, and it's been in development forever, but the last couple trailers looked like they really tightened things up and it looks good and really fast. The singleplayer, that is... internet buzz is that the multiplayer is a huge let down and looks really bad graphically. Which, honestly, I expected, as the MP has been passed over like 3 developers over the last 4 years and we had literally no info at all until a couple weeks ago, but it's still a shame as RTCW/W:ET were huge multiplayer draws back in the day. I'll post impressions of the singleplayer later.

And developed by Raven so his point still stands.

Had a look at the trailer. Massive "meh" from me. Later id games have been primarily about advances in graphics technology, and at this point, the law of diminishing returns is kicking in hard. For the majority of people, everything past Valves Source engine is "good enough". I just don't see anything that entices me here.

I'm quite looking forward to that. Again, I agree, id focus much more on detail and gorgeousness than gameplay, and to be honest, that's probably what I'd prefer to see.
Case in point: Assassins Creed, the gameplay is so-so, but the detail of the cities and beauty of it all is what means I pick my 360 controller up time and time again.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I think Borderlands has some more unique looking gameplay.

Of course the major thing of interest with rage is the megatexture, which means unique tetxuring on most things (not just the terrain like I first thought), though perhaps this is not the best game to showcase it, being primary sand + rocks. A RPG or similar title would look awesome, I believe the makers of oblivion have aquired id thus their next game perhaps will use megatexture.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars already used the mega texture approach. I believe Rage uses a more advanced version called texture virtualisation.

The difference is that all textures are using the megatexture now, not just terrain.
