Yestarday I stumbled in a possible rumor, or rather teaser annoucement by LucasArts, in G4 TV, that the X-Wing and Tie Fighter series could come back in the near future. Patrick Klepek from G4TV reports the following, as part of an interview he did with the LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez about plans ahead: «Patrick: I asked Rodriguez for thoughts on a return of the company’s lauded X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim series. His answer? “We don’t have any announcements now, but stay tuned, (…) We will soon….. said Rodriguez“» I really hope they make (or-remake) new StarWars flight simulators. X-Wing and Tie Fighter had the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story and solid missions. Happy days.
I recently picked up X-Wing Alliance at the bargain bin, and man that is one fun game! I have it setup so I can use my n-64 controller as the joystick, and my copilot controls the other stuff with the keyboard (then we switch on the next level). Funny thing is the game seems to have performance issues on my computer.. even though the game is from 1999. For example it seems to lag when getting near capital ships. Anyways, that is great news, I'd definitely pick up the new ones if they do release them and if the reviews indicate that they haven't been dumbed down.

x-wing was one of my favorites. I used to do the death star trench run over and over........
I've somehow never played these before, and I really really enjoyed the Wing Commander series (as well as Freelancer and Descent - Freespace).

Too bad it can't be picked up anywhere near here. I'm hoping for a remake as well!

Here you are. As far as I know Amazon UK also ships to Sweden. If not, ignore this post.
In didn't played this one (StarWars X-Wing Alliance from 1999). I'm not sure why, maybe something to do with heavier requirements. My machine was quite low-end back then. By consulting gamespot (review: 8.4, with 8.7 user score) it seems that the game was rather good. Anyone here played it?

It's got a lot more story then the other games. I also like the range of ships that you fly (alot of private ships with additional turrets that can be set to autofire). Gameplay wise I think it's the best one made, but it is probably the easiest of the series and tied the least into the movies (with the exception of the last mission which is the endor death star scene from return of the jedi).
Latest news I heard was it will not be re-released via Steam, so here's hoping it is a remake. I'll have more this Thursday in my Daily of course. I covered it briefly in last week's Daily.

I always thought the X-Wing Alliance story was kind of bad. The only thing it had going for it was the huge craft list and multiple areas. I always thought TIE Fighter was the best in terms of gameplay and story. I'd love to have a modern TIE Fighter 2 taking what was good out of X-Wing Alliance and giving it a good graphics engine.

It just feels better to serve the Emperor and crush those upstart Rebels.
