I used to read Salvatore too. I guess my tastes matured since I can't really stand any of his new books at all. Rereading some of the ones I've previously enjoyed makes me realize how childish they are compared to what I've gotten used to from authors like Martin and Hobb.

My partner said that when she tried to read them, so I tried her books (JV Jones). The Barbed Coil was similar in style and easier to read, the Book of Worlds just a little more complex, and by the time I finished the as-yet unfinished Sword of Shadows series, I understood what she meant about Salvatore, who she describes as a foreigner speaking broken english. I am reading them now because I liked them and they're easy to read. I'm generally a slow reader, but after reading Sword of Shadows, I'm flying through Salvatores latest work!
