Hi. Sorry for the naif question... I have developed my game, i have a working demo with the first complete level, and i just need to edit additional levels. Now I am looking for a publisher. I currently submitted a request to RealGames, BigFish, Steam... but i don't know if it's the right solution.. The game is a FPS with some splatter and some strategy (so i guess BigFish won't like it since it's not suitable for all ages) Any tip is appreciated! Here is the demo (Keyboard: WASD to move, E to grab/use object, R to reload, 123456 : switch weapon) (Mouse: look around, LeftMouseButton shoot, RightMouseButton zoom/aim, MouseWheel switch weapon) Here are 4 screenshots : - - - -
Mr. Q,
I wrote some FAQs on this question. Go to http://www.sloperama.com/advice.html and read articles 60, 21, and 54. Also read what Dan wrote on his site, obscure.co.uk.
If you thought the online game providers were the right place to go with your game, you may be right. The big thing, though, will be to network. There are lots of conferences and trade events you can go to in Europe. You'll probably have to invest more money in the effort than that, though, and also go to Asian and American conferences and events. And you should get active in the IGDA as well. If there is no local chapter, form one.
The easy part of your adventure has ended - you made the game. Now the difficult part begins - the business end of it. Buona fortuna.

Hi Tom,
thank you for the advice, i had stumbled upon your site before, looking for wisdom.
Nevertheless, i tried to ask before surrending in front of the truth...

Is it so difficult to find a publisher, show the demo, discuss the sequel and get it done??

It's not that difficult to find _a_ publisher, especially if you have a demo or finished the game already. Just pick out a trade show (with a business area) near you, check which publishers are there and make appointments with them beforehand.

The tricky thing is to find a publisher who will give you money up front to develop something. You need to network a lot and ideally get at least one game done to achieve that.

Also, the bigger the publisher the harder it is to get in. The big ones are only interested in projects that have the potential to earn them an obscene amount of money (and usually cost a lot to produce too). Any hobby effort will not cut it.

Thanks for the tips.

Marcus.
RealGames and BigFish are casual publishers and most likely will not publish an FPS.
