how come game industry is mostly old men with beards
nearly every interview i see with a game developer, they look about 40 , how come you never see young ones always old with beard or tash, i can understand the old you are the better developer you are as you have more years ahead but isnt it a good idea to have young ones start now so they will continiue the food chain when these old 45 year old developers retire?
:)
Most of the people who pioneered the games industry business are now in their late 30s and early 40s. Many of them now run their own studios, or run development houses. These are the people with the most experience and knowledge of a still fairly young industry.
Dosn't matter old they are, show them and their beards the well due respect they need.
Cuz they pushed us younguns out with more and more expensive content pipelines.

There's plenty of young people working in the games industry.
The percieved view of it being manly fully of 40+ people is due to the older programmers having more experience, and usually more respect which means they're more likely to have the ability, and be chosen, to demonstrate new techniques or games at various conferences.
Nobody really listens that hard to junior programmers/developers, its just the way it is, and usually to be considered a senior developer you'll probably have to have 5+ years of experience.
Because only men with beards can become great software engineers!
Evidence:
Ken Thompson (Unix pioneer) and Dennis Ritchie (co-inventor of C):
Brian Kernighan (co-inventor of C):
Bjarne Stroustup (inventor of C++):
Richard Stallman (creator of GNU and forefather of FOSS):
Edsger W. Dijkstra (reknowned computer scientist):
Conclusion: beards bestow divine computer programming skills upon their hosts.
