i am seeing more and more third party games going on steam , do you think this is going to make third party developers work harder on new titles and try and get atention from valve..

Yes, most likely. But some of the biggest developers are also the biggest publishers so that would have been an issue, except that steam is so popular for getting games on the PC that even other publishers (such as EA) are now providing content for their platform. If you're trying to release content on the PC it makes a lot of sense to get it available on one of the most popular services.

Yes... it is likely that people will make new games.
steam is brilliant. I pretty much only buy through steam now. If i happen to have a game on disk i add it to steam anyway so i can play with voip and still see my friends online. I feel bad for insulting it when it was new.
