Hi GameDev, I'm in high school, and I'm wondering if there are any good internships for high school students interested in game development. I noticed that there are some for college kids, but none really open for my age group. I am interested in 3D game art, and I already have a strong background in it. I have worked for mods and indie games. So once again, if anyone has any suggestions for an internship, please post it. :D Thanks for reading.
No, not really. Unless you have some sort of pretty fantastic portfolio, you're going to just have to wait a couple more years.

Well... As zer0wolf said, those internships don't seem to exist. This might be a bit of a let-down.

And what I'm going to say now, isn't supposed to get your hopes up until you get them crushed again or anything... xD BUT!

The bold have most of the world! You say you've worked for mods and indie games. You are in highschool, so I dare assume we're aiming at a no-cost, short-period internship (in my country, this is usually weeks rather than months at highschool :P ). You want to see what the real people do, and be able to put it on your very-much-future-resumee...

I'd say, give it a shot. Write a good, proper letter stating that you want an internship, mention all the points above, show what you can do already. You already have 'No' for an answer if you do nothing; you might end up with a yes. :)

Just don't aspire to already earn money, or expect a very intensive training program while you are there. ;) Aim, err... 'low', because that way there is little to no cost/effort on behalf of the company, but you DO get to look at what happens in the industry.

Give it a shot; you never know where you end up (even though it might be nowhere). Worst case, you get experience at writing letters!
