Hi. While reading a back-issue of New Scientist (issue pub. Apr-09-04, publisher. Reed Business Information Ltd), I happened to come across a short article in the Technology section about robots reading facial expressions. Supossedly robots (more accurately, machines) will able to read facial expressions in the forseeable future. If the technology does come in frutition, it means that these machines will be able to read and analyse the very common and subtle expressions we humans exude on a regular basis (Every waking second of our lives, to be exact). These machines will then be able to take the analysis of the facial expression and translate it through certain means into "computer-understandable" code - essentially, which then allows the information gathered to be used in all sorts of ways. Threat analysis and mood comparsion come to mind. I think I sumed it up as good as possible. Tell if I got something not quite correct (only if you read the article). I think this is...well, strangely intriguing. Imagine what it might transpire to if the technology becomes essential to Human-Robot interfacing technologies. Images of "battle droids" quickly analysing a human target and then deciding what to do (kill, subdue, help, aid or leave) springs to mind.
