Templars, Hashshashin, Freemasons, Illuminati etc...
Hi.
Bit of an oddity question for all of you, but it is a pressing one- especially to those who follow up on these societies and others.
I'm just wondering here about all the secret societies in all around the world. No, I'm not being silly here, even though it might seem as though I'm uber-broaderning it (Actually, I am, but that's not the point).
I just think - especially where the whole conspiracy edge thing is concerned as well as historical debate - that no-one "really" knows what they are talking about when they discuss these secret societies/orders/cults (delete as appropriate). I'm not saying that the rest of the members on here don't know about this stuff (you are all GameDev members after all- although that really doesn't count for much, as eighty percent are highly probable to base their knowledge on Computer Games). I just think - when talking to others that are "supposedly" knowledgeable about the subject - others either don't pay attention to (what I see as important to know about if you want to understand the world for what it is- I'm sure other older members might agree, but I'm talking about years not membership) what they're talking about, think that they know it all (experience this quite a lot!), base it on amatuer conspiracies (anyone who's seen the "water-sprinkler and rainbow" conspiracy on YouTube will know exactly the level I'm talking about) or are not "objective" and "rational" and "meditated" enough in their thinking.
I just wonder if anyone else feels the same way. Before you post (if you so choose to), remember that this is not an online forum version of Mythbusters! Please don't spam conspiracies without at least a "valid" or articulated opinion on them.
P.S. I realise that this is going to get griefed. My response is that of the wiseasses I hang out with regularly is: "Just remember, try not to Ancient Fail like Guy Fawkes (Taffer demoman), Charlemagne (alledgelly) and King Charles I (Executed with cotton shirts).

Lately when I have a conversation with a conspiracy theorist, it goes like this,
Theorist: <insert theory here spearheaded by any orginization>
Me: Wow dude, that sounds pretty bad. So what are you going to do about it?
Theorist: ...
Humans seem to have this thing where they seek out things, whether they exist or not, that are bigger than themselves that they have no control over. I think partly because it helps explain the unexplained and also partly because it's nice to have a scapegoat of somekind. I would bet that it's some sort of biological hardwiring for some sort of survival mechanism.

They're all the same group man! Bilderbergers, Trilaterals, CFRS, Bohemian Grovers, Masons, Templars, Bolsheviks, Skull and Bones, New World Order, Illuminati... They're all coming to get you! So Beware! Oh yeah, and don't forget, John Dillinger Died for your sins!

So if I may attempt to hack away at your forest of parentheticals, you feel that people disregard the theories of conspiracy theorists without giving them due consideration? Also, what was the question you said you had? I can't find a question mark in your post.
I take it that you base your knowledge of English spelling on Japanese computer games, you are a GameDev member after all.

You forget Maya calendar.Afaik,it has ~50 years circle, and "long circles" theory (forecasting of world crysises) gives 40-60 yesrs for one cirle.I think, Maya still alive and rule the world [smile]
The Masons thing always gets me. I got a buddy steadily working his way up in the group. While they might do some funny things (and wear funny hats) he has never once mentioned any secret things going on. Of course maybe they can selectively turn memories on and off or most of the Masons are just cannon fodder for the great Mason-Illuminati hidden agenda.

You forgot about the race of alien lizard men that live undergound in the US and call all the shots.
Actually, King Charles I got beheaded super hard. There was a small cottage industry in selling and reselling handkerchiefs people had dipped in his spilled blood for many years afterward.
Charlemagne/Charles I, the Holy Roman Emperor, died of a lung infection.
Both of them were arguably successful in their political aims, though King Charles I of England didn't quite grasp how far his parliament had spread their power base.
