Spiders, though you aussies have some real nasty buggers, but seriously don't be so quick to kill harmless house spiders, best flycatchers :)

No kidding. This sucker can bite you through a boot, and is one of the deadliest poisonous spiders in the world, aside from being very aggressive:

But I guess you don't have anything on camel spiders... (warning: photo may be photoshopped)

yes its even worse there, I hated it when the bastards used to burrow into my eyes (tearducts) even worse than going up your nose into your mouth.

true they used to write official stuff like that :)
it seems quaintly foolish nowadays, like a lot of the b+w television educational programs etc

I doubt such advice is impossible in the states let alone here or in oz

Perhaps it's all the rotting carcasses you have lying around?

Probably bit rot from dead code. That tends to attract bugs. [grin]

If that's not the help you're after then you're going to have to explain the problem better than what you have. - joanusdmentia

Thanks for the spider pics. Trip to Australia = canceled. [grin] Where is the camel spider from? I'm not going there either. [disturbed]

At any rate, I think I'll stay safe at home with small harmless spiders my cats can safely eat. [wink]

In michigan in the summer we get these little nats [sic]that can go through the fine screen windows. Once in a while I'll have one get through and he'll buzz and run into my laptop. I just go into another room and turn on the light and turn off the lights in my room.

I those gnats are vinegarflies (look like fruitflies), they can be controlled. For these, you can soak a slice of bread (preferably light, as it make spotting easier) in vinegar and leave it out. This does a good job of attracting them and makes it easier to kill them with a spray. Another solution is a glass of wine. Not only does it attract them, but it also drowns them.

In regards to pests in generals, has anyone use those ultrasonic bug deterrers? Do they work?

Quote: These claims are all false. Camel spiders (so named because, like camels, they can be found in sandy desert regions, although they aren't technically spiders) grow to be moderately large (about a 5"-6" leg span), but nowhere near as large as dinner plates; they can move very quickly in comparison to other arthropods (a top speed of maybe 10 MPH), but nothing close 25 MPH; they make no noise; and they capture prey without the use of either venom or anesthetic.
