Thanks for all the help guys, I think I will look into those programs mentioned above. I am also going to learn on using something like fbx or collada as mentioned, then I will have a talk with my instructor when class starts if I can use other formats for loading.

Yes, I agree. The export plugins delivered with the DirectX SDK don't produce readable results. It's just that I think Collada is even worse in that matter :-)
