Is anyone else bugged by Apple's claim that MacBook Air is thinnest in the world?
if youre so het up about it, complain to the consumer rights organisation in your country,
it happens all the time
eg here in nz the largest retail chain got fined a couple of days ago for false advertising

It's up to the people who make the other laptops to complain to Apple. If they care.
The 'thinness' of a laptop is the least of my concerns. I look for performance, versatility and application support.
...and depending on the circumstances of use, durability. Panasonic Toughbooks are nice and heavy duty.

Coincidentally Apple also decided to release thinnest CEO in the world.
Besides you man children need to grow up. I think it is hilarious that posters in this forum are so insecure that they feel threatened by new awesome products. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Embrace the change.
13" MB gives you almost the best bang for the buck in laptops around these days. Furthermore you get almost full fledged unix system coupled with BSD userland and other pretty awesome developer tools. And you can install windows in it if you start to get homesick and want to get back into comfty Visual Studio.

I've no problem whatsoever with apple claiming that macbook air is thinnest when it isn't thinnest, but rest of apple's image...
Observe:
Without marketing: yet another proprietary BSD fork, plus very outdated builds of free(open source) developer tools, such as gcc 4.0.1 from 2005.
With marketing: "almost full fledged unix system coupled with BSD userland and other pretty awesome developer tools"
edit: sorry. forgot to say that with marketing, evidently, its not a BSD fork [grin]

How about first commercially successful desktop BSD-fork that "just works" (stable, mature software) and actually comes bundled with some innovative value-adding software instead of generic package manager tree filled with worthless crap that is 95% of let's say gentoo or debian trees?
I'd be lying if I said that, though. OSX isn't a BSD fork. so there <[smile]>
To be honest, I bought my Mac because I was tired of all the PC vs. Mac wars. Friends of mine would argue back and forth and I had to get one just so I could give educated answers back to people.
After a year with the Mac (and believe me, I tried really hard to like it), I found it suffers from many of the complaints that Mac users say are Windows specific. For example, I had a brand new Lexmark colour laser printer. It worked just great in the Tiger version of OSX. I upgrade to Leopard. Guess what, my printer didn't work. It still doesn't work and in all the forums I visit, Mac users blame Lexmark and not Apple. To me, it appears that Apple changed their OS enough that the old drivers no longer worked.
My Mac occassionally crashes so wonderfully that the only way to recover is to physically pull out the power cord from the wall.
But, these are minor issues. The picture quality on the Mac monitors is absolutely stunning. They are quiet and take next to nothing in physical space. And overall, they do work out of the box with little or no modification.
As far as software goes, I had to ditch Safari as fast as I could. Happily Firefox worked like a charm and is a great Mac browser. Office 2007 for the Mac was ok. Not nearly as elegant as the Windows version but usable. Entourage (email in Office 2007) was pretty nice. Very comparable to Outlook.
I played a few games on the Mac and they ran fine and played without problems.
All in all, the Mac is a decent computer. But, despite everything it has to offer, it now just sits idle most of the time and my PC gets all the use. Why? I just simply prefer it. And that's where my PC vs. Mac debate starts and ends. I just like using a PC better, that's it.
I suggest this to anyone caught up in the Mac vs. PC battles. Tell the other person that they are entitled to like what they like. It doesn't make it the wrong decision, simply their decision. Just like it was my decision to prefer my PC.

Actually, no. In some countries the government-controlled consumer rights organizations are very stringent - the UK will fine you for false advertising. America is the most lax of "developed" nations, pretty much letting any bullshit claim through without verification - how many "scientifically proven" snakeoil remedies are advertised on television every day?

QFT.
I bought my Mac for Final Cut Studio. I like my Mac. YMMV. IDGAF.
