Hey everyone, I just found the results of a survey I did a few years ago in some old backups (I thought I had lost it). The survey was for a project that has long since been abandoned, but some people here may enjoy reading it. The survey is just few questions to game studios asking about how they treat game story creation and how they actually do it. There are 8 question and about 15 responses. http://kyleboyle.com/survey.public.html Cheers
Hehe I remember filling out this survey. Wow that was back before the Xenallure project died.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

That was actually quite useful in terms of seeing how writers/designers see story in relation games.

Although it does seem that it's effect has been dampened by the fact there are no outsider comparisons, therefore, no transition of opinion.
I have to agree with Naughty Dog on the Acts question, though.

It's more a tool, a functional feature designed to non-transparently pace the game than a necessity.
