3D for ISO

How is it possible to use 3D to render a isometric world correctly when perspective always messes things up (such worlds as Alpha Centauri and Railroad Tycoon 2)?
It's not as hard as you may think. Just render the polys with textures. It's easy to get the coordinates and then simply render. After that, blit buildings and stuff like that over the terrain.
